Jorrock - a character from the book or the author of the book?

 

In Virginia Woolf's novel, Mrs. Dalloway is walking around London and sees four books in a bookshop window:

"There were Jorrocks' Jaunts and Jollities; there were Soapy Sponge and Mrs. Asquith's Memoirs and Big Game Shooting in Nigeria, all spread open."

 

In three days, on April 4, the electronic version of this book will be released on Apple iBooks - and also with a typographical error,

 

like all previous publications.

 

A new paperback and hardback with the same misprint

 

have been available for purchase from Barnes and Noble for some time.

 

How should this be printed without error?

 As stated in Wikipedia:

Why is this an error?

For the mysterious Mr. Jorrock was not the author of a book called:

Jaunts and Jollities

 

Was this mistake already made in 1925 in the first edition of the novel?

This can be checked in the original copy of the book, which today costs between £5,000 and £8,000.

From another blog:

When she mentions Devonshire House and Bath House, I discover they’re grand mansions on Piccadilly, along which Clarissa Dalloway is walking, and when she writes “There were Jorrocks’ Jaunts and Jollities; there were Soapy Sponge and Mrs. Asquith’s Memoirs and Big Game Shooting in Nigeria…” Google tells me that the first two items are by the popular Victorian writer R. S. Surtees (and furthermore that the italics I have reproduced from my HBJ paperback are wrong, since “Jorrocks'” is part of the title and should be ital, whereas “Soapy” Sponge is the protagonist of some of his writings and not a title and should not be ital)
